Expedia.com  Open this site in a new window  Editor's Pick
This is one of the most well known travel sites out there. It's an extremely easy site to use. One cool feature is "Fare Compare" (access it via the Flights screen). It allows you to see what airfares other Expedia users are finding and purchasing for each date. Also, check out the Deals tab for air/hotel/car discounts.

OneTravel.com  Open this site in a new window
A great feature of OneTravel.com is the Ideal Vacation Finder. You can find it in the bottom right-hand corner of the home page. Basically, you select the activities you're interested in, your departure area, and timeframe, and you'll receive a customized list of travel options along with prices. It works very well and is great for people who think they've "been everywhere".

Orbitz  Open this site in a new window
Mostly known for airline tickets (it's owned by five major airlines), Orbitz has started to become a major player with hotel bookings also. Orbitz is home of the "Matrix Display". This allows you to breakdown flights by time and number of stops. For hotels, it allows you to break down listings by price and location. For cars, you can break down results by company and car type. In our opinion, this is the single best feature of any travel booking site on the web. It makes slicing & dicing search results a snap. Another great feature is the "Deal Detector". Here you can put in your flight information and target price, and Orbitz will e-mail you if a fare ever drops below that price. It's a great way to monitor deals for your favorite destination without manually searching all of the time.

TravelHero.com  Open this site in a new window
If you're looking for a site with tons of hotels, this one takes the cake. Most sites only list hotels that have online booking capability, but TravelHero also includes those small "boutique" hotels that aren't yet hooked up to the internet. They will take care of contacting the hotel for you usually within 24 hours. This site also has two other great sections. Click the "Deals" tab at the top to see specials offered by convention & visitors bureaus of many cities. Or, if your vacation plans call for amusement parks, click on the "Thrills" tab to be taken to AmusementPark.com where you can buy tickets online. TravelHero also offers vacations packages to Hawaii and Mexico.

Travelocity  Open this site in a new window
Travelocity is my "go-to" place when I'm looking for a travel package. For some reason they always beat out the other guys on price. There's one thing to watch out for though... sometimes the first price that shows up isn't the final price. Once you go to the next screen you may receive a message that the price has changed. Don't worry, this doesn't happen when you're booking, just when you're browsing. I've seen this on Expedia also, but not as often. Bottom line, if you see a deal too good to be true, it just might be. But, as mentioned earlier, good deals are definitely found here, especially when purchasing an entire vacation package.

TravelWorm  Open this site in a new window
TravelWorm is an extremely fast site that specializes in casino resorts and leisure destinations. Therefore you won't find hotels for all cities, but their list is fairly extensive. Before booking a trip be sure to join their free membership program which entitles you to a 2% discount on all hotel reservations.
